Like any good dog, Rufus loves to go for walks. He loves smellin’ the smells, poopin’ on new lawns, and growlin’ at cars that drive by. He’s a happy guy on our walks around the block. However, circumstances being what they are (short legs, thick fur), Rufus gets hot and tires easily. Without fail, about a block from home, we run into this problem:

This is the first grass plop of the walk. It wasn’t too sunny on this particular walk, so Rufus is just in the middle of someone’s lawn. Most often, he plops in the shade of the trees that line the street. We have to tug on his leash to get him back up, and as soon as he reaches the next patch of shade, he’s down again.

On particularly long walks, it can be difficult to get him back up! We could literally drag him by the leash (no, we don’t do that) and he still wouldn’t move! It’s very entertaining!
How do the other internet pups handle their walks? Smalls, Kaya, Ben, Bailey, Ted, Foxy, Gus, and Zapp
We don’t walk ours anymore for this very reason! They have free rain of the yard and then we dog park it because it is so hard to get them to actually “walk”!

According to JG, Ted does this all the time with him, but it has only happened rarely with me. I suspect that I keep Ted on a shorter leash than he does… Also, it was ridiculously hot last week, and Ted is not a fan of that.

AS’s dog does this little bit of trickery, too! I think she just likes to be carried.

That’s too cute! When we take Ben hiking on hot days he likes to run as far ahead as his leash will allow, find a shady spot, and sit there and wait for us to catch up. On one really hot day last summer he was actually walking in my shadow to try to keep cool. Cracked me up.
Rufus looks adorable in that second picture. Smalls makes that face all the time. Usually when she wants something and is trying to convince us that she deserves it because she’s so darn cute.

OMG that’s too cute. Poor little guy is tired!
Are you getting a new blog design again? I love this one.

Tim’s moms Cairn Terrier does this too.
When I walked him for the first time about 5 years ago I go really nervous that I was never going to get him home.

Wow, I have a laborador, and a beagle-pitbull mix. They’ve got long legs and are great runners… but take them on a walk and they’ll plop on every other lawn like your pup too! Then they’ll look at me with those eyes like “what yo? I’m tired! Come oooooon!”
